Dept. of Fish and Wildlife Resources seeking input on expanding deer harvest

The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources is seeking your input concerning the expansion of deer harvests in Zone 3, which includes Barren County, Monroe County and Warren County, and Zone 4. The proposed change will not effect deer harvests in Allen County.

Barren River Barbeque Bash fundraiser will be March 5 in Bowling Green

The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources has released its 2011 Fishing Forecast, and the forecast for the Barren River and Barren River Lake look good.

Observe fire hazard rules and prevent destruction of Barren River region

Now through April 30 is Spring Fire Hazard Season.
It is illegal to burn within 150 feet of any woodland or brush between 6 a.m.-6 p.m. Conditions are less favorable to spread a fire after 6 p.m., primarily due to wind.

All 2010-2011 Hunting and Fishing Licenses expire on Monday, Feb. 28, 2011.
So, if you are planning to hunt and/or fish in the Commonwealth after March 1, it is time for you to renew and/or purchase your 2011-2012 Kentucky Hunting and Fishing License.

Cold Barren River Lake can pose a threat of hypothermia to fishermen, boaters

With warm weather in the forecast (50 degrees on Sunday and warmer on Monday), fishermen, and some boaters, will head to Barren River and Barren River Lake for the first time this year.
However, the cold water temperatures can pose a threat to fishermen and boaters, if they find themselves in the lake, rather than on it.
Hypothermia is a physical condition that occurs when the body’s core temperature falls below a normal 98.6° F to 95° F or cooler.
