Bowling Green group sets Feb. 12 to hike the trails of Barren River Lake State Park

Bowling Green Hiking Meetup members will meet Saturday, Feb. 12, and hike three trails at Barren River Lake State Park.
The group will meet at noon in the Fairview Plaza Shopping Center in Bowling Green to caravan to the Barren River Lake State Park. (Meet Phil at his red Toyota 4-Runner in the parking lot.)
The group will hike the park’s 0.5 mile nature/historical trail (Lena Madesin Phillips Nature Trail), the 1 mile nature trail (Connell Nature Trail) and the 2.5 mile Bike and Hiking Trail.
The Lena Madesin Phillips Nature Trail is dedicated to a woman who worked toward the advancement of women. It is equipped with interpretive markers along the trail. It is located at the park and recreational area, just south of the park entrance on Hwy. 31E.
The Connell Nature Trail is considered a moderate to difficult trail, due to the hills it climbs. It begins near the beach road, and circles the park’s beach cottages.
The Bike and Hiking Trail is paved and primarily circles a large portion of the golf course. It begins at the golf course road, across from the lodge.
