Barren River Lake will host Crappie USA qualifier April 9; public seminar April 8

   Barren River Lake will be hosting a Crappie USA qualifier tournament Saturday, April 9, for entries in the annual Cabela’s Crappie USA Classic. Start time is scheduled for 6:30 a.m. from the Barren River Lake State Park Marina Dock, with weigh-in beginning at 4 p.m., also at the state park marina dock.
   Teams from across the country are expected to compete in the Amateur and Semi-Professional divisions of the quailifier. They will be fishing for a 7-fish limit of crappie. Tournament Rules and Regulations are available online.
      Entry fees in all qualifying tournaments are $100 per team in the Amateur Division and $200 in the Semi-Pro Division. There is an optional $10 (Per Team) Big Fish Pot. Tournament Registration is available online until April 7. Late registration at the Friday seminar is available; however, there is a $20 late fee. All participants must be a member of the American Crappie Association to fish in these events. Membership Information is available online.
   Four Kentucky teams are ranked in the Crappie USA Overall Amateur Points Division: #6 Mark and Keith Morris of New Castle; #8 Jean and Billy Boswell of Albany; #14 Scott Mitchell and Jeff Casey of Paducah; and #16 Ralph Riley and Jeremy Colvin of Glasgow.
Pre-Tournament Seminar, Friday, April 8
A pre-tournament seminar, open to the public, will be Friday, April 8, at the Louie B. Nunn Lodge at the Barren River Lake State Park. Sign up will begin at 5 p.m., with a meeting and a drawing for national sponsor field test products starting at 7 p.m. The public is invited to attend and meet the top local and national teams .
Crappie USA Kids Fishing Rodeo, Saturday, April
   A free “Crappie Kids” fishing rodeo will be Saturday, April 9, from 9-11 a.m. at the Barren River State Park Marina. Sign up will begin at 8 a.m. . The event is free to all children 12 and under, and all are eligible for a chance to win one of the six Crappie USA $2,000 scholarships to be awarded at the Cabela’s Crappie USA Classic. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
