Crappie USA on the lake this weekend, BassMaster Federation Nation next week

   If there was ever any doubt as to the quality of fishing that Barren River Lake offers, the next two weeks should put those doubts to rest. Two of the biggest fishing organizations in the nation will be on the lake.
   Crappie USA will be in town this weekend, Saturday, April 9, and BassMaster Federation Nation will be taking to the lake the next week, with competition set April 13-15; however, official practice begins Monday, April 11.
Crappie USA on the lake this weekend
   Barren River Lake will be hosting a Crappie USA qualifier tournament Saturday, April 9, for entries in the annual Cabela’s Crappie USA Classic. Start time is scheduled for 6:30 a.m. from the Barren River Lake State Park Marina Dock, with weigh-in beginning at 4 p.m., also at the state park marina dock.
   They will be fishing for a 7-fish limit of crappie.
   A pre-tournament seminar, open to the public, will be Friday, April 8, at the Louie B. Nunn Lodge at the Barren River Lake State Park. Sign up will begin at 5 p.m., with a meeting and a drawing for national sponsor field test products starting at 7 p.m.
   A free “Crappie Kids” fishing rodeo will be Saturday, April 9, from 9-11 a.m. at the Barren River State Park Marina. Sign up will begin at 8 a.m. . The event is free to all children 12 and under. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
BassMaster Federation Nation on the lake next week
   The BassMaster Federation Nation will have its Southern Division Championship April 13-15 at Barren River Lake. Official practice days are April 11-12. You must be pre-qualified for this event.
   Contestants will go out in flights, beginning at 6 a.m., from the Barren River Lake State Park Marina Dock. Weigh-in will begin at 2 p.m., each day at the state park marina dock, but will be staggered to allow each fisherman equal time. There will  also be a Junior BassMaster tournament on Friday, April 15.  
   They will be fishing for a 5-fish limit each day of bass, large mouth and small mouth must be 15″, while spotted bass must be 12″.
   Awards will be presented at the final weigh-in on April 15, at the Barren River Lake State Park Marina Dock.
   ESPN is expected to be at Barren River Lake to cover the Southern Division Championship.
