Barren River Lake State Park offers guests an opportunity to “horse around”

Barren River Lake State Resort Park offers guests an opportunity
to explore the park from a different perspective- from horseback.
Guests, 6 and older, can saddle up and enjoy a 45-minute trail ride through a portion of the park’s forest, stretching from the stables to the lake and returning.
The stable also offers lead-line pony rides for children 5 and under.
The stables, located on the park’s main road, are open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend. Rides depart every hour, with the last ride of the day departing at 4 p.m.
Full rides are $18 per person, and lead-line pony rides are $5 per child. Cash payment is required.
Reservations may be made by calling 270-646-2152, ext. 2418.

  1. Matt says:

Does horseback riding occur in Oct. or does it close after Labor Day

  2. Renee says:

Does horse owner ever sell retired horses from trail rides at Barren stables?

    • Clay says:

You got me on that one. You may want to contact Barren River Lake State Park (270-646-2151) and find out the name of the company that has the riding stable concession, and contact them directly. Sorry, that I can not be of more help.

  3. Amy says:

We are a family of 4 planning a trip this summer but can’t decide which state park. One of our children will be 2 by that time. With a helmet are they able to ride with an adult ? Otherwise our whole family would be unable to participate on a trail ride/ thank you.

  4. Donna says:

We went horseback riding last year in October. Will you not be open tomorrow?

    • Clay says:

BarrenRiverblog is not associated with any organization at the lake.
It is an independent source of information for people who enjoy the lake.
You would have to call the Barren River Lake State Park and they could tell you.
