Mountain bike trail along Barren River in Bowling Green under construction

The Bowling Green Riverfront Foundation, in conjunction with the Kentucky Mountain Bike Association, has reached an agreement with the City of Bowling Green to construct a 1.5-mile mountain bike trail in the Weldon Peete Park, along the Barren River in Bowling Green.
The track is expected to be completed by summer.
This is the first step in what members of the Bowling Green Riverfront Foundation hope will become a complete recreation area along the Barren River. Additional proposed phases include a river walk, pump bike track, a bouldering park, and whitewater rafting.
The estimated cost of the mountain bike trail construction is close to $20,000. The organization has already received grants from the Patagonia Clothing Company to go toward the project.
The total estimate for the multi-year riverfront park project, as proposed by the KMBA, would be between $5 million- $6 million.
“The Bowling Green Riverfront Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to to creating a center of human powered recreation and tourism commerce,” according to its Facebook page.
