Barren River Lake record Crappie, 3.2 lbs.

Doug Briggs of Cave City holds the new Barren River Lake record Crappie, weighing 3.2 lbs., and measuring 17 inches. With Briggs is Todd Logsdon of Barren Outdoors in Glasgow.

It is official.
   Barren River Lake has a new record Crappie.
   Doug Briggs of Cave City caught the 3.2 lbs. Crappie Nov. 15. It measured 17 inches.
   “I thought it was a Bass when I first hooked it,” he said.
   But, it didn’t take long for him to realize that it was a big Crappie.
   Briggs said that he was using a minnow for bait and a “simple” rod and reel for the catch.
   He submitted his catch to the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife ResourcesKentucky Trophy Fish Award recognition.
   Briggs said that he was fishing with his brother, Darryl Briggs of Cave City, and friend, Glenn Moore of Glasgow.
   The previous Barren River Lake record Crappie was 2 lbs., 10.6 ozs., and measured 16 3/4 in. It was caught by Mitch Nethery of Glasgow on March 29, 2011.
   The Kentucky record Crappie is 4 lbs., 14 ozs. It was caught in Watershed Lake in Christian County.

    Awesome fish.

    My biggest is 16.5. Never weighed it. Caught in high water in Peters Creek.

    Nice fish. I seen my dad several years ago catch one out of barren that was 16 an a half. He never made to big a deal out of it. But he did try to have it mounted an the guy ended up letting it freezer burn after he argued saying that there was no way a crappie that size was caught out of barren. Idiot.
