   This week, May 29- June 3, promises to be a busy week in and around Barren River Lake. All events are open to the public to either participate in and/or watch.

Port Oliver Recreation Area Dedication and Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony
A dedication ceremony and ribbon cutting for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Port Oliver Recreation Area at Barren River Lake, will be Tuesday, May 29, at 4:30 p.m. The ceremony will be in the recreation area’s amphitheatre.
   Park ranger led tours of the area will begin at 3 p.m. and run through approximately 4 p.m. U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell will be the guest speaker and Col. Luke Leonard, Army Corps of Engineers Louisville District commander, will give remarks.

Friends of Barren River Lake and Park Meeting (in Bowling Green)
   The Friends of Barren River Lake  & Park will meet Thursday, May 31, at 6:30 p.m. at the Christ Episcopal Church of Bowling Green, located at 1215 State Street, next to the Bowling Green Public Library downtown.

2012 Glasgow Highland Games

   The 27th edition of the Glasgow Highland Games will be June 1-3, 2012, at the Barren River Lake State Park.
   This year’s games will host the North American Team Scottish Athletic Championships, in addition to the Games’ regular schedule of events.

   Please be aware that most of the items are ticketed and charge admission.
Saturday-Sunday, June 2-3
Free Fishing Weekend
   The weekend of June 2-3 is a Fish Free Weekend throughout Kentucky. Everyone can become a fisherman this weekend, no license required.
   Even visitors to the Commonwealth are invited to take advantage of the Fish Free Weekend. They are not required to have a license for these two days. Size and creel limits on the number of fish that anglers may keep still apply.

5:30 a.m.-1 p.m.
Walmart BFL Bass Tournament
   Barren River Lake will host the Walmart Bass Fishing League (Mountain Division) on Saturday, June 2 at the Port Oliver Recreation Area, next to the dam. Registration is Friday, June 1, from 4-6 p.m. CT, at the Walmart at  2345 Happy Valley Road, Glasgow, KY.
   Takeoff from the Port Oliver Recreation Area will be at 5;30 a.m. CT. The weigh-in will be at 1 p.m., at the same location.
Saturday, June 2
9 a.m.
Kids Fishing Derby
   Children 15 and under are invited to meet at the Barren River Lake State Park Marina at 9 a.m. on Saturday, June 2, to participate in the Kids Fishing Derby. The Derby will end at 11 a.m.
   The Derby is a cooperative effort between the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources.
   Poles (or you can bring your own) and bait will be provided.
