Friends of Barren River Lake & Park seek support from Bowling Green residents

Friends of Barren River Lake & Park took its message to Bowling Green Thursday night to encourage support for the organization, as well as to recruit members.
Just over 20 people turned out for the meeting at Christ Episcopal Church in downtown Bowling Green.
The crowd was provided with an overview of the Friends of Barren River Lake & Park, and the many projects and plans that it has for the summer.
In addition to its traditional July 4 fireworks (that will be on Wednesday, July 4, this year), the organization has also set June 9 as the date for its Poker Run fundraiser. (Watch here for details).
U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Barren River Lake Park manager Carlos Lopez encouraged the crowd to become members, volunters and supporters of the lake and park, because of their importance to the community, not only in recreational opportunities, but financial impact, as well.
He said that during fiscal year 2011, over 1.3 million people visited Barren River Lake, in turn, creating a financial impact of over $26 million to the region during that same period.
Before adjourning for refreshments, the organization also provided a safety demonstration, showing the importance of personal floatation devices.
