June 9 Poker Run, Regatta results

   Saturday, June 9, was a busy day on Barren River Lake with two annual events- the Poker Run and Jolly Roger Regatta- taking center stage.
Poker Run Results
   The Friends of Barren River Lake & Park had its annual Poker Run at the Barren River Lake State Park Beach, despite it being closed to swimmers.
   Boaters, as well as some land lovers, spent the morning and afternoon traversing the lake to five locations, collecting cards, trying to collect the winning poker hand.
   When the winners were announced at 5 p.m., participants had played 97 hands of poker, raising close to $2,000 for the July 4 fireworks.
   First, second and third prizes were awarded, along with two “Luck of the Draw.”
     1. Robert Hester of Park City, $500.
     2. Elizabeth Ayers of Bowling Green, $250. 
     3. Ms. Pat Schweinhart of Brentwood, Tenn., $125. 
     Luck of the Draw Winner #1- Fred Shafer of Louisville.  
     Luck of the Draw Winner #2- Connie McGregor of Glasgow.
Jolly Roger Regatta Results
   The Port Oliver Yacht Club hosted its annual Jolly Roger Regatta Saturday, as sailboats, both small (dinghies) and large (cruisers) competed.
   The Jolly Roger Regatta started and finished at the POYC. The boats sailed around the islands, around Bailey’s Point and then turned around and returned to the POYC for the finish, using the same route.
   After the race, both captains and crews enjoyed a Low Country Boil dinner, followed by prizes.
   First, second and third place prizes were awarded for each class.
