Friends of Barren River Lake & Park seeking funds toward July 4 fireworks

The Friends of Barren River Lake & Park are seeking funds toward the annual July 4 fireworks at the Barren River Lake State Park. This is the fourth year that the volunteer organization has sponsored the event, after the state cut funding for the event.
The annual fireworks display costs the Friends between $7,000-$8,000, according to Jim May, Friends vice president.
Friends, despite a successful Poker Run last Saturday, is still short of its goal for the fireworks.
Tax-deductible donations toward the fireworks may be made to:
Ann Stewart, Treasurer
Friends of Barren River Lake & Park Inc.
          P.O. Box 213
          Glasgow, KY 42141-0213
The fireworks will be Wednesday, July 4, at about 8:30 p.m. However, entertainment, activities and concessions will be available around the park’s Louie B. Nunn Lodge throughout the day.
While the fireworks can be seen from around the lake, the prime spot is considered the hillside behind the lodge and tennis courts.
