Barren River Lake State Park July 4 fireworks will offer special parking

UPDATE July 2, 2012, 1:25 p.m.
Traffic and Parking
Traffic and parking are always a challenge with the Barren River Lake State Park July 4 fireworks, but these tips may make it a more pleasurable experience.
* When parking – park your vehicle facing toward the entrance of the park.
* Parking around the lodge is for lodge/restaurant guests only.
* Parking at the beach (see below) opens at 6 p.m., and is $10 with all proceeds going to the Friends of Barren River Lake & Park’s sponsorship of the fireworks.
* There is only outgoing traffic immediately after the fireworks. Right lane traffic will be directed to turn south on 31E toward Scottsville. Left lane traffic will be directed to turn north on 31E toward Glasgow.
* There will be no admittance to the park between about 9-10 p.m., due to outgoing traffic only.

The Barren River Lake State Park July 4 fireworks will include special parking at the state park beach, the closest parking to the fireworks.
Friends of Barren River Lake & Park will offer the special parking at the beach for $10, with all proceeds going to pay for the fireworks.
With the beach closed, visitors will be able to park in the beach parking lot, beginning at 6 p.m., until it is full.
This is the fourth year that the Friends of Barren River Lake & Park have sponsored the July 4 fireworks, after the state cut funding for the event.
The organization funds the fireworks through donations and fundraisers, and now with the special parking funds.
Admission to the fireworks is free.
The volunteer organization is still seeking tax-deductible donations toward the fireworks. They may be mailed to:
          Ann Stewart, Treasurer
Friends of Barren River Lake & Park Inc.
          P.O. Box 213
          Glasgow, KY 42141-0213
The organization will also have a tent set up at the park to accept donations.
The fireworks will start around 8:30 p.m. (shortly after dark).
Entertainment, activities and concessions will be available around the park’s Louie B. Nunn Lodge throughout the day.
The park will have plenty of patriotic fun crafts and games starting at 10 a.m., including the annual Float Your Boat contest at 7 p.m. The band Steel Country will perform at 5 p.m.
