Barren River Lake State Park’s recreation activities are open to everyone to enjoy!

   Barren River Lake State Park‘s recreation activities are open to everyone, not just to those staying in the park.
   Everyone, from local resident to out-of-state visitor, is encouraged and invited to participate in the park’s many recreational activities offered Monday-Saturday.
   All activities are FREE! unless otherwise noted.
   Children 15 and under must be accompanied by an adult.
   The park’s program supervisor Jamie Avery, along with the recreation staff (Jan Turner, Kandice Short and Patty Im) offer a variety of activities in and around the park’s Louie B. Nunn Lodge.
   The B.E.A.R.S. (Barren’s Environmental and Recreation Staff) Den is located on the lower level of the lodge.

WEDNESDAY, JULY 25
10: 15 a.m.
Paint Palooza: Have you ever painted with marbles, your breath, or nature?
Come and make beautiful paintings with different techniques! The paintings you make will be one of a kind to take home and frame.

1 p.m.
Geocaching 101: What is geocaching? Learn the basics of this addicting and fun
sport using a GPS. We will have a few GPS devices for you to borrow for practice.

7 p.m.
Egg-cellent Engineers: Bring your creativity, willingness to work with a team and competitive spirit to this egg-cellent challenge. Create a device with only the materials we provide to protect an egg from breaking when dropped from the balcony. Let’s see who will crack under pressure?

Tall Tales and Short Stories of the Dragonfly: Listen to the myths and mythology associated with the dragonfly. Let your imagination soar as you create your own special one to fly home with you!

Here Fishy Fishy: Pick up your BRLSRP fishing checklist and create a unique
souvenir fish to take home for the catch of the day! When you’re done, practice your casting skills in our “fish pond.”

Turtle Tails: What is the most common turtle in Kentucky? Find out the answer
and see one up close and personal during this turtle tail. Discover other cool facts about these reptilian creatures.

Love is in the Air: Tennis anyone? Learn to love the sport of tennis as we show
you some practice techniques to get you started playing this fun game. Quick-

FRIDAY, JULY 27

Vacation Journals: Do you want to remember all the fun things you did on your summer vacation? Don’t miss out on this chance to make a vacation journal to draw, write, cut, paste, and color all the fun things you did in 2012.

Horse Tails: Did you know a horses teeth never stop growing? Learn this and
more as we teach you a few interesting things about horses, from how to measure their height to how to tell if their happy.

Horse Trails: Follow another kind of horse tail as you ride along the trail on a
guided ride. Enjoy a guided ride along the beautiful lake and park scenery.

Fitness Friday! Have a good morning stretch with a light workout to get your body moving to the sounds of the Beach Boys! Wear loose clothes for stretching.

Kentucky Wheel of Fortune: Wheels are turning all the time and everywhere.
Spin our Kentucky wheel to see what question will be your good fortune in this
fun trivia game. Have fun while learning new information and facts about our
great state of Kentucky!

SATURDAY, JULY 28

Tales of Nature: It’s story time! Bring a blanket or sit on one of ours as you listen to stories and sharing about Mother Nature and all her wonders!
Location: Crabapple tree between pool and cottages
Ages: All, great activity for 3-8 year olds
Approx. Time: 45 minutes
2 p.m.
Tiki-Time: It’s Luau time! Create a unique tiki craft and then play some fun luau games like limbo, hula hoop contest, and hula to the luau music! Enjoy some refreshing kool-aid as a reward for your hula moves.

4 p.m.
Tie-Dye T-Shirts: Create a unique design all your own with rubber bands and
fabric dye. We will show you some different techniques and help you twist, tie,
dip, and create a shirt that will be as individual as you are.

Price: $8 per shirt or $5 per bandana (If you bring your own $3)
7:30 p.m.
The Amazing Campground Race: Bring your team of racers and get ready to GO! Race against other teams and see who can accomplish these crazy fun tasks. This will be a high energy, fast paced competition that takes you to different areas of the campground. Please wear comfortable shoes and be prepared to run! You must sign up by 5 pm with the recreation staff (ext. 2415) to participate. You may sign up as a team or as individual who will be added to a team.
