Scout Celebration at Tailwater Aug. 10-12

   The annual Barren River Lake Scout Celebration is this weekend, Aug. 10-12.
   Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts from across southcentral Kentucky will be spending the weekend at the Tailwater Recreation Area, just below the dam.
   This year’s celebration will be honoring the Girl Scouts of the USA during their 100th anniversary.  The Army Corps of Engineers invites scouts to come to the Barren River Lake Scout Celebration and show your scouting spirit and celebrate a century of “Living Daisy’s Dream.”
   Units will begin arriving at 4:30 p.m. Fridayand begin setting up camp. The Friday night campfire will include a slide show, followed by a movie.
   Saturday is a full day of activities, beginning with the traditional flag ceremony. Activities will include water safety, scouting skills and a cooking competition.
   Scout exhibits will be open to the public from 1:30-3 p.m. in the exhibition area. All units will have displays and exhibits for the public that will allow the public to experience the fun of scouting. 
   The Scouting Junior Olympics will conclude the afternoon.
   The closing campfire late Saturday night will include the presentation of awards, including the coveted “Jigger” Award for scouting spirit.
   The celebration will conclude Sunday morning.
