Barren River Lake is busy this weekend

   Barren River Lake will be a busy place this weekend, Aug. 10-12. There will be something- a Scout Celebration, an Adventure Race, programs on meteor showers, and fishing tournaments- for everyone.
   Here is a quick rundown of all of the events on the lake this weekend.
Aug. 10-12
Scout Celebration, Tailwater Campground
   Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts from across southcentral Kentucky will be spending the weekend at the Tailwater Recreation Area, just below the dam. Units will begin arriving at 4:30 p.m. Friday and begin setting up camp. Events will be Friday night, Saturday and Sunday morning.
   Scouts will have displays and exhibits open to the public Saturday, 1:30-3 p.m., in the exhibit area of  the campground.
Aug. 11
Adventure Race, Barren River Lake State Park
   Barren River Lake State Park will host one of the four adventure races in the 2012 Unbridled Adventure Race Series on Saturday, Aug. 11, beginning at 10 a.m.
   The six-hour (that is correct, 6 hours) adventure race will include mountain biking on trail and road, trekking on and off trail, paddling on flat or slow-moving water, and navigation with a topographic map and compass.
    The race finish is scheduled for 4 p.m., with awards at 5 p.m.
Aug. 11
Programs on the Perseids Meteor Shower, Barren River Lake State Park
   Saturday afternoon and evening will be full of activities in preparation of the viewing of the Perseids meteor shower. It will be provided by the Louisville Astronomical Society.
      At 4 p.m., everyone is invited to make a shooting star craft at the bottom floor of the Louie B. Nunn Lodge. A literature and lecture session on the Perseids meteor shower will be at 6:30 p.m. in the lodge. After the lecture, there will be a karaoke party, while waiting for the sun to set, and the real stars to come out.

KY-15 USA Bassin Saturday Nights, Barren River Lake State Park Ramp
   The KY-15 USA Bassin Saturday Night fishing tournament is set to begin at 6 p.m. Saturday, and conclude at 2 a.m. Sunday. It will be using the state park boat ramp.

R & W Circuit Division 5, Port Oliver Recreation Area Ramp
   The R & W Circuit Division 5 fishing tournament is set to begin at 6 p.m. Saturday, and conclude at 2 a.m. Sunday. It will be using the Port Oliver Recreation Area boat ramp.
