Trashmaster Classic seeks volunteers, pontoon boats for Sept. 15 cleanup

   The 25th annual Barren River Lake Trashmaster Classic, scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 15, is seeking volunteers and pontoon boats to help in the lake cleanup.
   Volunteers are needed to pick up and collect the trash, while the pontoon boats are needed to shuttle the volunteers to different shorelines for the cleanup.
   All volunteers will treated to lunch and the opportunity to win prizes. Additionally those who provide pontoon boats will be reimbursed with free camping or gas cards.
   The Trashmaster Classic will be from 8 a.m.- noon, around the lake.
   In its 24-year history, the Trashmaster Classic has picked up over 430,000 lbs. of trash from in and around the lake.
   Volunteers will gather at the ramps at Baileys Point, Beaver Creek, Barren River Lake State Park, the Narrows, Peninsula, and Port Oliver. They will then be shuttled around the lake to pick up trash.
   The event will conclude at noon with a picnic at the Barren River Lake State Park beach. Following the food, prizes will be awarded.
   Mike Shea and Mickey Taylor will provide entertainment during the picnic. WBKO’s Shane Holinde will emcee the event.
   There will also be exhibits by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Kentucky State Parks, the Sierra ClubFriends of Barren River Lake & Park, and WBKO.
   This is an official National Public Lands Day event.
   The Trashmaster’s Classic lakeshore cleanup is sponsored by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the Friends of Barren River Lake & Park, and Kentucky State Parks.
