Corps of Engineers honors veterans with free day-use fee on Veterans’ Day

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will honor veterans and their families on Veterans Day, Sunday, Nov. 11, by waiving the day-use fee for boat launching at Barren River Lake and all Corps-operated boat ramps. The Corps will waive the fee for all active and reserve military service members and their families.
The traditional observance of Nov 11 as Veterans Day dates back to Armistice Day of World War I. The armistice became effective for “The Great War” at the 11th hour of the 11th month of the 11th year.
President Woodrow Wilson signed legislation for the establishment of Armistice Day in 1919.
Veterans Day was established in 1954, when Armistice Day was renamed Veterans Day honoring Americans’ veterans, by President Dwight D. Eisenhower.
