It is time to look back at the major events of 2012 via BarrenRiverBlog.com.
1. Glasgow Man Drowns in Barren River Lake
Terraz Brown Lester, 20, of Glasgow, was swimming with friends near the Siddens Bridge on Siddens Road on June 14, when he went under and failed to resurface.
2. Port Oliver Recreation Area Dedicated
U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., was on hand for the dedication and ribbon-cutting for the Port Oliver Recreation Area May 29. The recreation facility is located next to the Barren River Dam in Allen County.
3. Narrows Marina Closed, New Marina Facility Being Developed
The Narrows Marina at the Narrows Recreation Area on Barren River Lake was closed to the public Nov. 18. The marina is in the process of being dismantled and is not safe for public access. A new marina facility at the Narrows will be developed by Wayne Shelton and William Henry Funk, developers.   
4. Barren River Lake State Park Beach Closed for 3rd Consecutive Year
The Barren River Lake State Park Beach remained closed for a third year in a row. The previous two years due to high lake levels and 2012 due to low lake levels.
5. Sandhill Cranes Harvested In First Hunting Season 
Fifty Sandhill Cranes were harvested in Kentucky’s inaugural Sandhill Crane hunting season, according to the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources. Almost half of the cranes, 24, were harvested around Barren River Lake in Barren County. Kentucky’s first Sandhill Crane season ran 30 days, Dec. 17, 2011- Jan. 15, 2012.
6. Outdoor Weather Warning Siren Installed at Park
An outdoor siren, located at Barren River Lake State Park, on June 23, will now provide visitors to the park and boaters on the lake a warning of storms and emergencies. The siren, which can be heard for about 2 miles.
7. Annual Trashmaster Classic Celebrates 25 Years of Success Thanks To Volunteers
 The 25th annual Trashmaster Classic, sponsored by the Friends of Barren River Lake & Park, on Barren River Lake on Sept. 15, was another success thanks to the work of the 352 volunteers who collected trash from the lake Saturday morning. The volunteers collected 554 bags of trash from the lake and 69 tires.
8. Mountain Bike Trail Created along Barren River in Bowling Green
The Bowling Green Riverfront Foundation, in conjunction with the Kentucky Mountain Bike Association, reached an agreement with the City of Bowling Green to construct a 1.5-mile mountain bike trail in the Weldon Peete Park, along the Barren River in Bowling Green. This is the first step in what members of the Bowling Green Riverfront Foundation hope will become a complete recreation area along the Barren River.
9. Wal-Mart Bass Fishing League Made Two Stops On Barren River Lake
Barren River Lake hosted two stops of the Walmart Bass Fishing League (Mountain Division), one on Saturday, June 2 , and the other on Sept. 22-23, both from Port Oliver Recreation Area.
10. Unbridled Adventure Race Runs Through Barren River Lake State Park
Barren River Lake State Park hosted one of the four adventure races in the 2012 Unbridled Adventure Race Series on Aug. 11. The six-hour (that is correct, 6 hours) included mountain biking on trail and road, trekking on and off trail, paddling on flat or slow-moving water, and navigation with a topographic map and compass.
