92 Sandhill Cranes killed across state

BRB Sandhill Cranes 2012 012   Hunters killed 92 Sandhill Cranes in the state’s second Sandhill Crane hunting season, Dec. 15, 2012- Jan. 13, 2013, according to the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources
   The season limit was 400 with a daily and season bag limit of two birds per hunter.
   The Sandhill Cranes were killed in seven counties across the Commonwealth:
– Barren County- 67
– Hardin County- 17
– Bourbon County- 2
– Fulton County- 2
– Harrison County- 2
– Hopkins County- 1
– Nelson County- 1
   Ninety of the cranes were killed on private property with two killed in the Barren River Lake Wildlife Management Area. 
   Hunters were required to report their daily harvest on the KDFWR’s  telecheck system.
   In the first Sandhill Crane hunting season, Dec. 17, 2011- Jan. 15, 2012, hunters killed 50 Sandhill Cranes.

   Barren River Lake State Park will once again offer Sandhill Crane Nature Watch Weekends Jan. 25-27, and Feb. 8-10, 2013.
   Registration is $30 per adult, $18 per child (8-12 years). The fee includes presentation on the cranes, a box lunch, a T-shirt, and a choice of one viewing- either Saturday sunrise, Saturday sunset or Sunday sunrise.
