Barren River Lake begins to fill toward summer pool.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has begun the annual process of holding water in Barren River Lake to achieve its summer pool (552 ft.).
The lake level is altered by changing the dam gate openings.

The Corps, annually, begins lowering the lake to reach winter pool (525 ft.) by Dec. 15, and then begins holding water to reach summer pool by April 15.
The process of drawing the lake down to winter pool each year allows for spring rains, and is meant to prevent spring/summer flooding around the lake, as well as down stream.
As the lake rises, ramps and beaches will become usable again.
