Barren River Lake State Park remains open, as federal shutdown continues

Barren River Lake State Park is open for business.
The state park is not being affected by the federal shutdown of campgrounds and recreation areas around the lake.
Barren River Lake State Park’s campground will remain open through Oct. 31.
And, the park’s Louie B. Nunn Lodge and cabins are also available for overnight stays.
In addition, the park’s golf course, boat ramp and marina are also open.
Barren River Lake State Park has two special events this month:

Trail of Scarecrows
Oct. 1-31
Scarecrows will be hanging around Barren River Lake State Park through Oct. 31, as visitors are invited to view the Trail of Scarecrows free of charge. Pick your favorite and come in to the Louie B. Nunn Lodge to vote for it in the Driftwood Restaurant.
The scarecrows, along with laminated signs indicating the names and builders, will be placed along the paved walking trail throughout the park for visitors to see as they hike or bike.
A section of trail is also visible along the park road, and visitors will be able to see some of them on their drive into the park.

Spooktacular Weekend
Saturday, Oct. 19
10 a.m.- 8 p.m.
Have a spooktacular weekend at Barren River Lake State Park, where ghosts and goblins take over the park’s campground. There will be costume contests, pumpkin roll contests, trick-or-treating and other activities for children.
Campers: Don’t forget to bring candy for trick-or-treating.
