High water may keep beaches closed

Once again, high waters may keep the beaches of Barren River Lake closed during the Memorial Day weekend. Beaches effected by the high waters are Quarry Road, Beaver Creek, The Narrows, and Baileys Point. The Barren River Lake State Park no longer has a beach.
In addition to the beaches, the high water is also effecting the boat ramps and their parking lots. Boaters are also warned about debris floating in the lake, as well as just below the surface.
Following a week of heavy rains, the Barren River Lake crested at 555.95 ft. on Friday, May 16. Summer Pool (the ideal lake level throughout the summer) is 552 ft. Predictions estimate that the lake level will only fall to 554.2 ft. by Thursday, May 24. The dam is currently open at 7-tenths. Barren River Lake Water Levels
